Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice - Tutorial Level Design

I’ve been really enjoying From Software’s new game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. After playing through the opening I made a video going over some of the simple and interesting design choices they made when creating their tutorial level.

In the video I talk about how they guide the player through the level while teaching them how to play and how to interact with the different systems in the game.

A few of my favorite parts of the level include how they use audio cues to let you know how many enemies have spotted you. Which they highlight to the player by hiding one enemy behind a door while they engage with another in clear sight.
Also how they try and trick the player into falling into a gap by presenting them with a great view of the moon, prompting them to pay close attention to the environment through the rest of the game.
